| Student Internship | |
Thank you for your interest in the internship program of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Medical Library Association (MAC/MLA). We think that you will find MAC/MLA an interesting professional organization and will have an enjoyable experience working with our members.
Why is MAC Sponsoring an Intern?
In 1994, the Medical Library Association released the Platform for Change, which outlined areas health information professionals in which professionals would need to become and remain competent in the 21st century. Involvement in professional associations like MAC can greatly assist in the education and career growth of new professionals. As an MLA chapter we wanted to introduce an MLS, MLIS or MIS student to our dynamic regional group, involve him or her in chapter activities, and provide a means to meet and work with experienced health information professionals from a variety of library settings. It is hoped that a positive experience with the group will result in a future professional who will continue to be involved in association activities.
Who is eligible for the internship?
Any student currently enrolled in an MLS, MLIS or MIS program in the Mid-Atlantic Chapter region (MD, DC, VA, WV, NC) or living or working in the Mid-Atlantic Chapter region, who has a demonstrated interest in health sciences librarianship or medical informatics as a career, is encouraged to apply.

What Will be Required of the Intern?
The intern will be a member of the annual meeting program committee and will work with the program chair. It is hoped that the intern will bring a fresh perspective and a knowledge about new technologies in today's libraries to the committee. The intern may be assigned additional committee tasks, for example, help identify topics or speakers. In October, the intern will attend the Annual Meeting to report on the year's experience to the MAC membership.
