Audience Response System

Audience Response System Overview

CBIL purchased its first Audience Response System (ARS) in late 2003 in order to better support the faculty and students of the VCU School of Medicine. This Audience Response System is a infrared based response system that supports 64 keypads and up to 6 choices per question. The faculty can program their quiz, test or a simple in-class review as multiple choice questions in the system, which can then be answered by the students with the response keypads in the audience.

In 2006 and 2007, CBIL purchased an additional radio frequecy based Audience Response System. This new system can support up to 200 participants and work in a similar fashion as the Infrared based system. Due to its sheer size, this system is not as mobile as the 64 pad system, and is designed to be used in the lecture halls such as Baruch and MSB auditoriums.

These Audience Responce Systems can provide excellent feedback to the faculty as well as the students. The faculty can acquire detailed analysis on individual questions, students or the class as a whole. Faculty can obtain valuable information such as median, mean, response rates and correct percentile for individual questions or students etc. The students can receive instant feedback on their performance for each question.
